Hello Friends,

As I move into August, I am drawn to the green man, a symbol currently accepted as one of seasonal renewal and perhaps even ecological awareness. A few years ago while  travelling through Europe I saw so many wonderful sculptures, and the ones that caught my interest were mainly those of the green men (foliate faces) looking at the people in the cathedrals and churches. The very first recorded references of the Green man  actually go all the way back to the second century. Clearly he's been around for a very long time. 

I have completed the painting in a monochromatic style to emphasize the features and to accentuate its form in a dramatic way. I was really drawn to the expression of this Green man. While highly animated, he still seems calm somehow. Quite an interesting contrast.
